MARATHON course (42 km)

MARATHON (Bovec - Žaga - Srpenica - Log Čezsoški - Čezsoča - Jablanca - Kamp Klin - Koritnica - Kukč - Bovec)

The half marathon starts and finishes in the centre of Bovec (in the main square). We run on the main road towards Dvor, past the petrol station to the crossroads where we turn right towards Žaga (Bovec – Kobarid). The road descends slightly from the start. After 1.8 km we run slightly upwards for about 100 m and then down to the hamlet of Podklopca. We run for about 5 km across a flat part past the Žvikar inn. 500 m later we reach and cross a bridge from where we can enjoy a magnificent view of the Boka waterfall. The road then descends slightly downwards for 600 m towards the boarding house Boka and then slightly ascends to the village of Žaga (7th km).
The terrain until the centre of the village (grocery shop) is flat; then the road descends slightly and ascends slowly for 1 km before the village of Srpenica. We turn left, run through Srpenica and at the end of the village (we have reached 10 km) turn left onto a field path towards Lipovec, a bridge over the Soča River (11 km). Here we reach the furthest point of the marathon. It is forbidden to run across the bridge – we must walk! From the bridge we ascend 80 m to a walking and cycling path and turn left towards Log Čezsoški (14.3 km). This part of the route is slightly diverse; but at all times, we can glimpse the beauty of Bovec. In the centre of the village we turn right and continue across flat terrain towards Čezsoča for 3 km and then for 150 m slightly up to the Čezsoča field from where we have another 1 km to the village of Čezsoča. After the village of Čezsoča we turn right for Jablanca.
After 1 km we run past a swimming pool and continue straight across a bridge over the Slatenik Brook towards Jablanca. There follows one of the most beautiful parts of this marathon. At the last house (at Štefan's) at the end of the asphalt road we cross a little brook and continue on the walking and cycling path past Breka to Kršovec where we turn left across the bridge over the Soča River and continue on the road Bovec–Soča. After 2 km of a slightly diverse terrain (asphalt) we turn right across the hanging bridge over the Soča River (za Otoki) and continue on a field road to the Lepena Valley (the confluence of the Soča and the Lepenca with a view of the surrounding peaks), to the camping site Klin, to be more exact, where whe turn left on the asphalt road to the turning for Lepena. On the way we cannot miss the view of the Great Soča Gorge. At the turning we turn left and continue towards Kal–Koritnica.
At the 35th km at Kršovec the road ascends gradually for 400 m until the old timber cableway Golobar, descends for another 200 m and ascends again slightly to the village of Kal–Koritnica. At the bus stop in Koritnica we turn right and continue through the village and on the unpaved road towards Kolovrat. At first the road ascends for 1 km, then descends for another 1 km and we reach the field with slight inclination where we have already reached the 38 km. We ascend to Kukč where we cross a hanging bridge over the Koritnica and turn left on an unpaved road towards Bovec. After about 1 km we reach the main road Bovec–Log pod Mangartom and continue for Bovec.
After 400 m the road ascends for the last time for about 300 m until Breg. We continue across the flat terrain past the Hotel Mangart to the roundabout and turn right to the finish in the centre of Bovec.
